2008 SEQ SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT

With the population of the world currently more than 6.6 billion people and growing, the sustainabilty of our food supply is under threat. Current agricultural practices are affecting the availability of fresh water, degrading the soil quality, threatening biodiversity and generating over 30% of all greenhouse emissions. If these practices continue at their current rate, the capacity to produce food within Australia and globally will be unsustainable in the long term. We need to act now.

As nutritionists, we need to ensure that our food supply is sustainable in the long term, to ensure the health of future populations.

In accordance with the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, we recommend that individuals consume a variety of foods, including breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat and alternatives. In addition to this, we have developed a set of dietary recommendations that factor in sustainability of our food supply, as well as healthy eating.

This website provides you with a three phase eco-challenge to assist you with consuming sustainably. The challenge is located on the blog page and each phase of the the challenge is aimed at specific dietary recommendations.

Take the challenge and do your bit for food sustainability!!!
